The Free tier never expires. Licensed features stay visible in it. Choosing one opens Settings › Licence.

A Licence is a one-time purchase. It covers up to two Macs, is yours for good, and includes twelve months of updates.

Activating

  • Paste the BIGS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX key into Settings › Licence and click Activate. Case, dashes and spaces do not matter.
  • Or click Activate in Bigshot in the purchase email.

Once a key activates, Bigshot offers the Code map's image model, which lets Code Lens match on what things look like as well as text. It runs on this Mac and is a 390 MB download. Download starts it and Not Now skips it; either way the offer is not shown again, and the model stays in Settings › General.

The key is kept in the Keychain. Bigshot checks it with the server at launch and once a day. Being offline, or the server being down, never takes a Licence away. Only a refund, a revoked or replaced key, or this Mac's seat being given to another Mac does.

Moving to another Mac

The Licence page shows Active on N of 2 Macs. Deactivate this Mac frees its seat. Manage… opens the licence page on bigshot.pics, where a seat can be freed from a Mac you no longer have. Lost your key? on the Free page opens the same site, where the key can be looked up.

The upgrade prompt

The Free tier asks once, fourteen days after the first launch, and at most once more, thirty days after Not now. It never asks once a key is entered. The price it shows, and the one on Settings › Licence, is read from bigshot.pics, so a launch discount appears and ends without an update.

Updates

See Settings › General › Updates. Updates are downloaded as a disk image. Before copying the new version across, delete the old /Applications/Bigshot.app, since macOS caches the app icon by its path.
